Stewart Island - Rakiura Track

Stewart island was the start of Semester break just short of 3 weeks long. As i made my way down the East coast, i passed by Dunedin, Gore, Invercargil and more. After taking a ferry over to Stewart island, I stayed in a backpackers for the night. While waiting for my mates to come in on the ferry, I ran out to Ackers point and trekked around Horseshoe Bay during the day. Once Zach, Zac, Paddy, and Andy came in, we immediately caught a ferry out to Lee bay and began hiking to our camp site...in the dark. We camped out on the beach and the next morning began our 6 hour hike through the forest. (Stewart Island by the way is the closest point you can get to Antartica and we were hiking in shorts and T-shirts) It had recently rained a heeps and made for quite a muddy trek! We reached our next camp site and set up camp again. The next morning we woke up and finished our 3 day hike. But not before Paddy cut his finger open while slicing cheese. He ended up gettin 6 stitches in Invercargil. After we made our way to Queenstown and feasted on FERGBURGER. then some drunky was so kind to pull the fire alarm at 4 in the morning....how nice. Anyways, i awoke the next morning to make my bus back to Christchurch to stay at a friends house until my next adventure....

Mt Cook - Mueller Hut

Mt Cook, the largest mountain in New Zealand....and i climbed it....well, not Mt Cook but a mountain right next to it! Zach, Ally, Nic, and I climbed Mt Olivia. The climb was quite difficult and it poured the entire way up. Once reaching the the ridge, 120 Km/hr speed winds kicked in. We battle rain and wind to reach the hut just 2 Kilometers further. The hut that night was full so the 4 of us set up our tent below the hut and endured the night, surprisingly, we all slept well. The next morning we summited and reached the top for the sunrise. As the sun came out, we gazed at the sea of clouds in front of us, with the sign rising over Mt Cook, quite the sight!
